Seeing as that everybody is doing intros and Im not feeling the whole study grind I figured Ill give it a go. I'm Matteo, 21 years old, going to pharmacy school in Philadelphia. Watkins Glen is my hometown and is basically what got me into cars, as I spent most of my childhood summers at the track with my dad. Im heavily involved with everything related to WGI and Watkins Glen in general (corner worker, vintage grand prix festival, international motor racing research center, etc.) I got into competitive stuff a few years back with my dad and we're now both avid autocrossers, battling it out in the Glen Region SCCA G Stock class in our '99 BMW 318ti. Along with the 318ti, I have an '02 BMW 325ci for track use and DD plus an '86 Toyota MR2 that I just bought to shuttle me back and forth from Philly and to have a bit of fun. Picture time!

Nice to meet you! I like your bimmers!

Do you have any posts on your 318ti that you can link to? I've always been curious to learn more about that car. I have had a couple E36 325is cars in my life but never driven a 318ti

I dont think Ive got any really good links about my 318ti specifically but anything on http://www.318ti.org/forum/index.ph… will shed a ton of light on the little cars. If you want to look at my posts specifically: http://www.318ti.org/forum/search.p… I've always been a BMW guy (along with the rest of my family) besides the two here we've got an '03 X5 4.4i, a '00 528i and a '70 1602 which was incidentally the frst car my dad ever bought, way back in '85 when he was 19

Awesome, thanks! I'll check out your posts for sure. While I haven't driven one I feel like they are great buys. Most people don't know them or don't love them. Makes them affordable. And they're light and the hatch is super usable. My first car was a used '84 318i

Does your family's 2000 5er have an AT or MT? My sister had a 323i of that vintage with an AT. It experienced the dreaded premature AT failure

The ti's are awesome, theyre fairly underpowered but with a manual, rwd, the lightweight and the same rear suspension as an E30 theyre very chuckable and tail happy. Good ones can be had at 3-4k all day and the hatch really makes it practical. The 5er has an AT, we bought it in 2007ish with 34k miles and are up to about 120k now and havent had any tranny issues

Chuckable and tail happy is awesome :) I really can't think of a better car you can buy for $3000-4000 if fuel economy and cargo space are important.

I'm glad you haven't had any issues with the 5's AT. I think my sister's car was a 2001.

That's awesome your Dad still has his first car!

Seriously nobody. That is so cool he kept it. I wish I had kept my first car. It was my Dad's first bimmer. I gave it to my uncle when I bought an '81 633CSI. I wanted a straight six on a budget. It was a beater and ended up having problems. I should have kept the 318i and waited until I had more money to buy the next bimmer.

I just posted my current garage if you want to take a look -
